It's exhausting feeling like you have to leave parts of yourself at the door just to fit in.
You might feel like you are always scanning for danger, protecting yourself from judgment, or shrinking yourself to make others comfortable.
You may be carrying the invisible weight of racial trauma, the stress of immigration, or deep personal wounds no one else sees.
I am here to support you with:
High-Functioning Anxiety: Feeling constantly on edge or unable to turn off your brain.
Racial & Immigration Trauma: The deep fatigue of navigating discrimination or adjusting to a world and fitting in.
Complex Trauma: Old wounds from childhood or history that make it hard to trust others or yourself.
Isolation: Feeling like no one truly understands your reality, even when you are surrounded by people.
You don’t need another place where you have to perform; you need a place where you can rest.

My name is Elizabeth Muia.
I am a mother, a crocheter, a chapati-maker, and a therapist who rebuilt my career after moving from Kenya to Canada.
I now live on Treaty 7 land in Calgary.
I know firsthand that adjusting to a new culture or navigating systems that weren't built for you is a painful, ongoing journey.
In our sessions, you don't have to justify your pain or teach me about your culture before we can do the work.
I offer a judgment-free zone where your reality is validated instantly.
My goal is to help you feel seen, safe, and truly at home in your own skin.
We try to think our way out of pain, but trauma—especially complex or racial trauma—lives in the nervous system.
It shows up as a tight chest, a racing heart, or a sudden urge to shut down.
I welcome clients from all backgrounds. Whether you're ready to talk or struggling to find the words, your voice matters here.
I go beyond standard talk therapy by using body-focused approaches:
EMDR & Somatic Therapy: To lower your internal alarm system and process difficult memories without being overwhelmed.
Family Systems: To look at the big picture of your family and understand patterns passed down through generations.
Culturally Safe Care: Whether we speak in English, Broken English, or Kiswahili, I offer a safe harbor for people who are tired of performing.
Trauma and cultural adjustments don't just happen to individuals; they ripple through families. I work with couples and families to strengthen attachment and navigate the gaps between generations or values.
Whether you are dealing with conflict, disconnection, or the pressure of cultural expectations, we can create a space where everyone feels heard and understood.
You don’t just have to survive.
You can thrive.
My hope is for you to release the shame and guilt that isn't yours to carry, and feel empowered, able, and renewed.
You can reach a place where your trauma doesn't stop you from living, where you can respond to triggers with calm control rather than fear.
You deserve to feel a deep sense of self-worth and joy.
If you feel that we may be a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute consultation, or you can book your first session online.
