Therapy Fees and Payment Policies

At Therapy Alberta, we believe therapy should be accessible, straightforward, and free of surprises. Below you’ll find information about our session rates, billing options, and insurance support.

Standard Session Rates

  • Registered Psychologist (RPsych) – $235 per session

  • Registered Social Worker (MSW, RCSW) – $220 per session

  • Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) – $180 per session

Standard 1 hour sessions are 50 minutes, with 10 minutes reserved for documentation and review. 30 minute, 1.5 hour, and 2 hour sessions are also available upon request.

We follow the guidelines set by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. The PAA’s website provides information about fees for Psychologists: https://psychologistsassociation.ab.ca/resources/recommended-fee-schedule/

Sliding Scale Rates

We know therapy is an investment and we want to make it as accessible as possible. If finances are a barrier, ask us about our sliding scale. All our therapists offer sliding scale fees based on need and availability.

Direct Billing and Insurance

We offer direct billing for many major insurance providers. If your plan doesn’t allow direct billing, we’ll provide you with a receipt you can submit for reimbursement. You can claim therapy with a Registered Psychologist or Social Worker as a medical expense on your taxes.

Common insurance providers we bill directly to include:

  • Alberta Blue Cross

  • Canada Life

  • Green Shield

  • Manulife

  • Desjardins

Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend contacting your provider to ask:

  • Does my plan cover Registered Psychologists, Registered Social Workers, or Canadian Certified Counsellors?

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral?

  • How many sessions per year are covered?

  • Is direct billing available?

Payment Methods

We accept same-day e-transfer as our preferred payment method. A credit card is kept on file for convenience and used only in case of missed payments, late cancellations, or no-shows.

Cancellation Policy

We require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be billed the full session fee.

Therapy Alberta is a woman-owned and operated, independent, profit for good, non-government, private therapy clinic based in Calgary, Alberta, serving individuals and families across the province

Therapy Alberta respectfully acknowledges we are supported by the land of Turtle Island, now called Canada. Turtle Island is the home of the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have travelled, gathered, lived on and cared for these lands for centuries. Calling Canada our home is a privilege and responsibility. Declarations of land are only one component of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

We are committed to new communities of decolonization. We strive to create safe, affirming, anti-racist and anti-oppressive spaces to welcome and provide free mental health care for people from Indigenous, Black, Color and LGBTQ+ communities and those impacted by trauma. Support our mission today.
