Our Commitment

Therapy Alberta connects Albertans with mental health information, a practitioner directory and a community. Trust matters to us. This policy explains what we collect, why and how we protect it.

This policy covers anyone who uses therapyalberta.ca: visitors, community members and practitioners.

Who We Are

Therapy Alberta is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

  • Mailing address: Therapy Alberta, 11500 29 St SE #105, Calgary, AB T2Z 3W9, Canada
  • Questions: Contact us

What We Collect

We collect what you give us directly:

  • Contact form: your name, email, and message
  • Directory applications: your credentials, contact details, practice info, and any extra materials you send
  • Newsletter signup: your name and email
  • Community accounts: your name, email and password when you join Constellations. Professional members also give their licensing body and license number
  • Community posts: anything you post or share in the community
  • Donations: PayPal processes your payment. We receive your name, email and donation amount, never your card details
  • Site use: Kajabi collects things like pages visited, browser type, and general location (see Cookies & Analytics below)

We don’t collect or store clinical or therapy session notes. Therapy Alberta is an information site, community and directory, not a clinical record system.

How We Use It

We use your information to:

  • Answer your questions
  • Review directory applications and check registration numbers
  • Manage and update directory listings
  • Run your community account and membership
  • Process donations and keep records of them
  • Send newsletters (unsubscribe any time)
  • See how visitors use our site, so we can improve it
  • Meet our legal duties

We don’t sell your personal information.

Cookies & Analytics

Our site runs on Kajabi, which sets cookies on every Kajabi site. There are two kinds:

  • Essential cookies keep the site working, like keeping you signed in and processing checkouts. These are always on.
  • Non-essential cookies help Kajabi measure how the site is used, like which pages are visited. Location data is broad, just city or country.

We don’t add our own analytics or advertising tools, and we don’t use advertising or retargeting cookies. Emails we send through Kajabi may show us whether they were opened or a link was clicked.

Kajabi may store this data outside Canada, including the US. We don’t use it to identify you by name.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking non-essential cookies won’t stop you from browsing the site. Blocking essential cookies may stop features like signing in or joining the community.

How We Share It

We don’t sell personal information. We share it only in these cases:

  • Service providers. We use trusted platforms like Kajabi to host our site, community and directory and to send emails, and PayPal to process donations. These providers handle data on our behalf. Some may store data outside Canada; when they do, we look for providers with protections like Canada’s.
  • Other community members. What you post in Constellations can be seen by other members, so please be thoughtful about personal health details you share there.
  • Legal reasons. We may share information if the law, a court order, or someone’s safety requires it.
  • Business changes. If Therapy Alberta changes hands, like a transfer to a new operator, your information may transfer too, under the same protections.

We don’t share your information with others for their own marketing.

Safeguards

We take reasonable steps to protect your information: limiting who on our team can access it, encrypting data in transit and choosing providers with their own security practices. No system is perfectly safe. If a breach puts you at real risk, we’ll tell you and the right authorities, as the law requires.

Our site may link to outside resources, like mental health info or crisis lines. We aren’t responsible for their privacy practices. A link doesn’t mean we endorse everything on that site. Please check their own policies too.

The Practitioner Directory

When you apply to be listed, we review your application and check your registration number. If we approve you, we publish your listing, including what you told us. By applying, you agree to that information being public. You can ask us to update or remove your listing any time.

How Long We Keep It

We keep your information only as long as we need it, for example, while your listing is active, or until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete it any time (see Your Rights below).

Your Rights

Under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you can:

  • See the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to fix wrong information
  • Withdraw your consent, within legal or contract limits
  • Ask us to delete your information, where we reasonably can

To use these rights, please contact us. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We aim to respond within 45 days, as Alberta’s law requires.

If we haven’t resolved your concern, contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC).

Children’s Privacy

Our site and community are for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our platform or practices change. The date at the top shows the latest update.
