How we use social media & reviews

Purpose

This policy covers our social media. It explains what to expect from us, and what applies to directory practitioners. It keeps your privacy safe and our social posts educational, not clinical.

Our Posts Are Educational, Not Clinical

Anything we post, on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, or elsewhere, is educational, just like our Site. It’s not advice, a diagnosis, or treatment. Following us doesn’t make you our client. If a post speaks to you, check the directory or talk to a professional.

Reviews

We welcome reviews of your experience with Therapy Alberta. Maybe you found a practitioner in our directory, used our resources, or joined the community. Reviews help other visitors, and help us improve.

That’s different from reviews of a practitioner’s clinical work. Practitioners in our directory answer to their own colleges. Many colleges limit how a therapist can ask for or use client reviews. So we don’t ask for or show reviews of a practitioner’s clinical work. We ask practitioners in our community to do the same.

Your Privacy

We respect your privacy on social media, whether you’re a member or a past client of the former practice:

  • We won’t follow or monitor your personal accounts without a reason we’ve agreed on with you.
  • We won’t search for your personal information online.
  • Social media isn’t private. Please don’t share health details in comments, posts, or DMs to us. For general questions, use our Contact page. If you’re in crisis or need support now, call 911, or call or text 988 anytime for suicide or crisis support. In Alberta, you can also call the Mental Health Help Line 24/7 at 1-877-303-2642.

We’re happy to follow and share directory practitioners’ own accounts, to support their work.

For Directory Practitioners

If you run your own social media, you’re in charge of what you post there. That includes client privacy and your college’s rules. Our accounts are separate from yours. We don’t monitor your social media.

Concerns

Have a concern about a post of ours, or a practitioner’s conduct? Please contact us directly, instead of posting publicly. That way we can look into it, and point you to the right body if needed.
